A fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering , Alberto has taught at several Italian and foreign universities, including MIT, and since 1976, he is the professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He co-founded Cadence and Synopsys, the two leading electronic design automation companies, and serves on the board of directors of Cadence, Sonics, and KPIT-Cummins. He consults with major companies including Comau, IBM, Magneti Marelli, Intel, HP, GM, and is a member of several international committees, including the Technology Advisory Council of United Technologies. During his career, Alberto has received several prestigious awards for his teaching and its contribution to innovation in the field of engineering. He has served as the President of the Consortium Semantic Valley since 2010, and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Research and the Strategic Committee of the Italian Strategic Fund. Alberto graduated in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan, and holds two honorary doctorates in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Aalborg in Denmark and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.
